Within the framework of the Sustainable Tourism Mission of the Interreg Euro-MED Programme, the Dialogue4Tourism Project, in cooperation with the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, is organising the Sustainable Tourism Policy Lab in Montenegro. The Lab aims to strengthen institutional capacity and improve coordination among public authorities and tourism stakeholders, while supporting the mainstreaming of sustainable tourism and encouraging meaningful policy transformation.

By promoting a shared methodology, capitalising on the results of the Sustainable Tourism Mission’s thematic projects, and fostering transnational cooperation and knowledge exchange, the Policy Lab contributes to a more cohesive, innovative and sustainable tourism future for the Mediterranean.

The event is organised by the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro within the framework of the Dialogue4Tourism Project and Sustainable Tourism Mission.

Main goals:
• Strengthen coordination and institutional capacity in sustainable tourism to support decision-making and policy processes.
• Enhance policy transformation through shared methodologies relevant to Mediterranean tourism.
• Capitalise on and disseminate Tourism Mission thematic project results.
• Foster transnational cooperation and knowledge exchange in the Mediterranean.

Structure:

1) Theoretical session
• Introduction to the Sustainable Tourism Policy Lab methodology, objectives and expected outcomes.
• Overview of theoretical knowledge and selected examples related to sustainable tourism practices and destination management.
• Four key concepts remain at the core of the discussions and practical work: i) Tourism Governance, ii) Climate Change, iii) Tourism Innovation and iv) Circular Economy in Tourism.

2) Practical session:
Participants will work in small groups through scenario-based and roundtable exercises focused on addressing key challenges affecting tourism destinations. Building on the theoretical session, participants will exchange experiences, prioritise actions and co-design solutions related to:
• strengthening sustainable tourism governance,
• encouraging innovation in tourism development, and
• supporting circular economy approaches and resource efficiency in tourism destinations.

The practical work will be contextualised within the Montenegro destination management framework and aimed at identifying policy-relevant approaches for sustainable tourism development.

3) Wrap-up and final reflections on the practical session outcomes
Summary of the key conclusions emerging from the practical session discussions, followed by final reflections and closing remarks.
