Two high-level events in Marseille and Poreč have shaped a new set of governance recommendations to advance sustainable tourism across the Mediterranean. Hosted by the Dialogue4Tourism project, the sessions fostered vital cooperation and policy dialogue in 2024.
In a significant stride toward enhanced policy coordination, the Dialogue4Tourism project has published a new report outlining governance recommendations for sustainable tourism across the Mediterranean. Developed within the Interreg Euro-MED Sustainable Tourism Mission, this document draws from insights gained during two strategic round tables held in 2024.
The first event, hosted by Région Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur in Marseille on April 24, brought together EU and regional stakeholders to explore synergies under the theme “Cross Network Alliance: An Open Dialogue with Initiatives, Strategies, and Other Programmes in the Mediterranean.” The second, held on October 15 in Poreč, Croatia, and led by the Institute of Agriculture and Tourism (IPTPO), focused on the role of local and regional governments in improving multi-level governance.
Together, these sessions enabled vibrant exchanges among key governance actors, laying the groundwork for practical recommendations that build upon the 2024 White Paper on Sustainable Tourism Governance and Climate Adaptation.
The resulting report not only supports ongoing strategic work within the Dialogue4Tourism and Community4Tourism projects but also serves as a background paper for the Mediterranean Multi-Programme Mechanism, reinforcing the region’s collective commitment to smarter, greener tourism development.
