The Sustainable Tourism Mission have participated -through our partner ASCAME- in MEDITOUR Agadir 2026, one of the leading Euro-Mediterranean tourism forums, to present our work on governance and capacity building.
Held in Agadir, Morocco, from 18 to 20 June 2026, MEDITOUR brought together public authorities, tourism organisations, businesses, researchers and international cooperation actors from both shores of the Mediterranean. The forum focused on the future of Mediterranean tourism through discussions on sustainability, competitiveness, destination governance, blue economy and regional cooperation. The programme also included networking sessions, thematic roundtables and field visits showcasing sustainable tourism initiatives in the Souss Massa region.
During the event, ASCAME presented the Dialogue4Tourism Project to strengthen multi-level governance across the Mediterranean by fostering collaboration between public institutions, regional authorities and tourism stakeholders. Special attention was given to the Sustainable Tourism Mission’s role in capitalising and transferring the knowledge and tools by the Thematic Projects, ensuring that innovative solutions can be replicated and integrated into regional and local tourism policies.
The presentation also highlighted the Mission’s governance actions, including the Sustainable Tourism Policy Labs, which provide collaborative spaces for policymakers and tourism stakeholders to exchange experiences, co-design solutions and promote evidence-based policymaking for more resilient and sustainable destinations.
MEDITOUR 2026 offered an excellent opportunity to reinforce cooperation with governance stakeholders from the South Mediterranean. Throughout the forum, we engaged with representatives of Moroccan institutions, regional authorities, tourism boards, chambers of commerce, international organisations and Mediterranean cooperation networks, exploring new opportunities to strengthen policy dialogue and facilitate the uptake of sustainable tourism practices across the region. The event also featured dedicated discussions on Euro-Mediterranean tourism cooperation, destination governance and blue economy, providing an ideal framework to expand partnerships between North and South Mediterranean actors.
